    Knorringu Manor, Tartu · 6 June 2024

The collection originated from the costumes of the Ugala Theatre production 'The Prince and the Pauper'. The main themes are luxury and poverty, freedom, power and social conventions.

The old becomes new, the everyday becomes luxurious, the ordinary becomes unique — and vice versa.

Inspiration comes from visits to hardware and fabric stores in connection with work. Something seen may set the mind running, regardless of whether it is needed at that moment or not. It could be a complex pipe fitting, a net, a cable bracket or a crinoline tape.

The collection was created using everyday objects that are an integral part of our daily lives and have a direct practical purpose. Some materials were not originally intended for making costumes or costume details. They are often low-cost, many are used daily, and they generate waste.

    Materials

Lint roller and toilet paper cores, pipe heat and condensation insulation, curtain tapes, disposable work gloves, sleeping bags, metal moulds for baking cannoli, odds and ends found at home, material remnants from previous works, fabric remnants and clothing pieces found in the theatre store.

Disposable polyurethane finger covers were used as ermine. The king's crown is decorated with metal tubes for baking cannoli, and the royal jabot is formed from curtain shirring tape. The collection promotes mindful consumption and reducing overproduction.
