It is said that 'Rosmersholm' is the most complex, mystical, psychologically subtle and captivating of Ibsen's plays. When I read it, I was struck by how the text did not feel dated at all. There are few external events, yet the inner worlds of the characters are full of memories, guilt, fears from the past and trials of love. To convey this layer, I used video as one of my scenographic tools.
I have the first edition of 'Rosmersholm', published in Norwegian in 1886. It was given to me some time after the premiere. It is a very rare book, as the first print run of the play was very small.
To me, the production became multilayered, yet at the same time cohesive and multifaceted.
