Fashion Show Mood-Performance-Dance
Collection: New Metamorphosis
The collection is based on costumes from the Ugala Theatre production The Prince and the Pauper, staged as a progressive rock musical. The main themes are luxury and poverty, freedom, power, and social conventions.
The inspiration came from frequent visits to large construction and fabric stores, which are often part of my work. Sometimes, an item seen there sparks ideas, regardless of whether it is immediately needed or not. This could be a complex pipe fitting, mesh, cable tie, or crinoline tape.
For this collection, I used ordinary objects that are an integral part of our daily lives and have direct practical purposes. Some materials I used were not originally intended for making costumes or costume elements. They are often inexpensive, used daily, and leave behind waste. For example, I used lint roller and toilet paper cores, thermal and condensation insulation pipes, curtain tapes, disposable work gloves, sleeping bags, metal molds for baking cannoli pastries, odds and ends found at home, leftover materials from previous projects, fabric remnants from the theater warehouse, and parts of clothing.
The old becomes new, the everyday becomes luxurious, the ordinary becomes unique, and vice versa. Disposable polyurethane gloves become ermine; the king's crown is adorned with metal cannoli pastry molds; the royal jabot is created from curtain pleating tape. Imagination can turn an ordinary object into something unexpected and interesting, giving it a new use.
Items can be tools for imagination and expression of inner creativity, not rulers of our lives. The collection aims to promote thoughtful consumption and reduce overproduction.
The Mood-Performance-Dance fashion show took place on June 6 in Tartu at Knorringu Manor.
