It is believed that "Rosmersholm" is the most complicated, mystical, psychologically subtle, and enchanting of Ibsen's plays. When I read through it, I was struck by the fact that the text of the play did not seem outdated at all. There are not many external events in it, but the inner world of the characters is full of memories, pangs of conscience, past fears, infidelities and love trials. To mediate this layer, I used video as one of the scenographic tools.
I have the first edition of "Rosmersholm," which was published in Norwegian in 1886. It was given to me as a present sometime after the premiere. It is a very rare book, because the first print run of the play was quite small.
It seems to me that the performance turned out to be multilayered, yet complete and multifaceted.
